Are you an organic (food) waste or composting expert? Either from an agricultural, environmental, business, or system perspective? And would you like to support our local partner Mety (located in Madagascar) in achieving their mission to establish a business for the collection and processing of food waste from markets and small restaurants to produce added-value products, such as good quality fertilizer and biogas? Then we are looking for you!
Mety is currently developing a business case and requested us, EWB-NL, to assist in developing a sustainable business model and provide technical support. To address these technical challenges, we are looking for passionate participants with relevant expertise and/or experience in the valorization of organic (food) waste to collaborate during a mini-project.
The Challenges:
Mety needs technical support for four different topics:
How to produce high-quality compost from food waste?
How to make organic compost affordable and /or accessible to the farmers?
How to produce a small-scale sustainable energy source for cooking from food waste?
How to switch from wood stove cooking to sustainable cooking?
Why These Challenges?
The goal of this event is that you and your team come up with possible solutions and to analyze their possibilities and constraints. This will help us to define the direction and scope of our long-term collaboration with Mety.
This is part of the exploration phase, prior to the project execution (which is more in-depth).
Timeline:
05/03/2021 (12.00h-14.00h GMT+1) – First session with an introduction of the challenges, EWB-NL and Mety, including a video tour in the context and Q&A + brainstorm session within the teams.

19/03/2021 (12.00h-14.00h GMT+1) – Closing session with pitches and feedback from Mety

At EWB-NL we realize that for some communities in developing countries access to fresh drinking water is a stumbling block in their daily life. How would you grant access to drinking water in communities with limited resources, in remote locations? And how would you ensure it will be sustainable? How would you bring into contact the right parties and what does it take to turn an NGO’s effort into success?
