In 2019 we have initiated our circular economy portfolio. Engineers Without Borders – The Netherlands (EWB-NL) has been involved in many exciting projects, which come from our potential partners in developing countries. Many innovative ideas and promising initiatives have emerged to move from a linear to a circular model.

EWB-NL together with ACT (Africa Collect Textile) are looking for team members for the execution phase of an engineering project in Kenya. The goals of this project are to establish or develop technologies that can be installed and built locally for re-purposing of non-wearable textiles.

Your activities

  • Market research for available and affordable technologies for non-wearable textile re-purpose.
  • Design a shredder machine that can manufacture new fluffy filling materials for pillows and furniture stuffing. 
  • Conduct the techno-economic assessment for the selected technologies and define the feasibility for ACT.
  • Other great ideas that help the re-purpose of textile in Kenya.

What we would love for you to bring to the table

We are looking for 4 to 5 team members with the following qualifications:

  • Strong critical mindset.
  • Good collaboration skills and an open-mind.
  • Interested in being a volunteer engineer/expert in EWB-NL ACT project.
  • Good knowledge in one or more of the required technical fields:
    • Mechanical design
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Environment, health and safety
    • Circular textiles
    • Technology economic analysis
  • Have the possibility to dedicate about 4 hours per week in CIC Rotterdam or remotely.

Project Starting Date:  01/02/2022

Project Finishing Date: 31/08/2022

Remuneration

All the openings at Engineers Without Borders are unpaid volunteer positions. We dedicate our free time to improve life in developing countries and have fun and a great learning experience by doing so.
