In 2019 we have initiated our circular economy portfolio. Engineers Without Borders – The Netherlands has been involved in many exciting projects, which come from our potential partners located in the global south. Many innovative ideas and promising initiatives have emerged to move from a linear to a circular model.

This time we are looking for a team to realize the project execution phase with our new partner, Africa Collect Textile (ACT), which aims to  design a simple shredder machine for ACT in Kenya and to carry out a techno-economic analysis for the selected or designed technologies.

Your activities

  • Design a simple shredder machine for making that can manufacture new fluffy filling materials for pillows and furniture stuffing. 
  • Select a suitable shredder machine from the market for ACT application.
  • Carry out a feasibility study for the technologies. 
  • Conduct the techno-economic assessment for the selected technologies and define the feasibility for ACT.
  • Construct the mechanical documents such as general drawing, datasheet, installation and maintenance manual. 

The feasibility study is aimed to start in November 2021 and be delivered by the end of  March 2022.

What we would love for you to bring to the table

We are looking for 4 to 5 team members with the following qualifications:

  • Strong critical mindset.
  • Good collaboration skills and open-minded.
  • Interested in being a volunteer engineer/expert in EWB-NL ACT project.
  • Good knowledge in one or more of the required technical fields: Mechanical design, Environment, health and safety, Circular textiles, Technology economic analysis
  • Have the possibility to dedicate about 4 hours per week in CIC Rotterdam or remotely.

Remuneration

All the openings at Engineers Without Borders are unpaid volunteer positions. We dedicate our free time to improve life in developing countries and have fun and a great learning experience by doing so.
