Project Request Coordinator

Job Description

In Engineers Without Borders – The Netherlands, our volunteers are a key asset to implement our projects: without their time and knowledge, EWB-NL would not be possible. With them, we share the enthusiasm and passion about making a positive change with long lasting impact.

We are looking for a Project Request Coordinator. In EWB-NL we receive project requests from potential partners in the global south. The first step is to critically review the project requests to assess if it is a project in which EWB-NL should work in. The project must meet the following criteria:

  • Engineering based
  • Locally requested
  • No competition
  • Level 3 aid project
  • Sustainable (FIEST criteria)

Would this role be something for you? Read the details below.

Your activities

In order to select the right project, it is necessary to get in contact with the requester to better understand the project needs and assess the context in order to understand whether the involvement from EWB is necessary. This role involves close collaboration with the Senior Expert group and project portfolios of EWB. You will be involved in the decision making process for accepting new projects.

  • Initial evaluation of the project requests from local parties (communities, NGO’s, entrepreneurs)
  • Work with the local partner towards a feasible project request
  • Optimize existing project request system (request form, checklist, approval procedure)
  • Bridge knowledge between Project Portfolios and local parties
  • Report project request progress to EWB board

What we would love for you to bring to the table

  • Critical mindset, being able to ask the right questions in the right way
  • Good communication skills and understanding the complexity of communicating with potentially local partners in the global south
  • Experience working in projects or organizations for development aid is preferred
  • Experience in the engineering sector is preferred
  • Your commitment to spend ~4 h/week and to be available to meet at bi-monthly in Rotterdam or virtually.

What we offer

  • A great and passionate team to work with
  • Exchange of knowledge
  • A good way to learn and gain experience
  • You are welcome to work at our co-working space in Rotterdam (CIC) or remotely
