Events Team Member

Events Team Member

Job Description

The events team organizes events for the EWB community which are aimed to bring members together and collectively learn and share knowledge about  project execution in developing countries. We like to use the events as an engagement platform for our engineers, prospective volunteers and partners – a place where we can share knowledge and learn from each other expertise. Typical examples of recurring events are the Meet & Greet, in which project updates are shared and the volunteers can meet with each other accompanied with some drinks and interesting discussions, and the Hang-Out, which are casual social gatherings such as a movie night, a beach clean-up, bar hopping, etc.

At the moment, there are few more events under development like symposium, design challenges, workshops, think tanks, masterclasses, etc and for this reason – we are looking to a new enthusiast to join the events group.

There are some other tasks you may be involved in like supporting the project teams with their events such as fundraising activities. The events team aims to organise interesting, fun and inspiring events that contribute to a strong EWB community.

The events team currently consists out of Irina and Tessa, we are looking for 1 or 2 persons who would like to join us. Besides organising the events, we also like to do fun team building activities (the bars need to checked first before going hosting a bar hopping event, right?)

Main activities:

  • Practical preparation for the events, such as booking location, promotion of the event,  doing groceries, sending invitations, etc.;
  • Defining the content of the events  and creating an events calendar;
  • Brainstorm about future events and about how to strengthen the EWB community;
  • Bi-weekly events team meeting for future planning.

Applicant requirements:

  • Organisational and communication skills;
  • Interest in the EWB projects, our goals and technical challenges in developing countries. You do not necessarily need to be an engineer, but you should be interested in the projects. After all, this is what the events will be mainly  about;
  • Creativity and ideas for future events are very welcome;
  • Your commitment to be at the EWB events and our meetings as much as possible;
  • Experience in event management and marketing communications is preferred, but not required. Your enthusiasm and commitment are more important!
  • Has to be located in Rotterdam area or willing to travel there at least 1-2 times a month
  • Positive thinking

All the openings at Engineers without Borders are unpaid volunteer positions. We dedicate our free time to improve life in developing countries and have fun and a great learning experience by doing so. Our only expectation is that you dedicate the amount of free time you feel comfortable with and commit to this.
